Over the past year, ive saved a denver roll of each presedential dollar coin (just like many of you on this site) after doing a little research, i realized that sooo many people are saving these coins that its almost like the bicentennial coins. These coins are barelly going over face now adays. So i was wondering what you people think about getting a roll of each president every year then at the end of the year, sell the obw rolls of the dollars to dealers at a show and buy a more expensive coin, one that will most likely appreciate a lot more then the new dollar coins. First off, do you think this is a good idea? Second, once the madison dollars come out, i will have $100 dollars to spend on a coin. What coin should I get? P.S. Im willing to spend more than $100 dollars on a coin, if i can get a much better coin for only a little more thanks monkeyman
Hmm..if the coins are barely over face, why would you buy rolls only to sell them at a show? Why not just keep the cash set aside and save yourself the trouble? Who can say if dealers will be buying? They might have a couple boxes at the shop that they can't move themselves. Don't be so concerned with appreciation. Coins are not an investment. Buy what you love or what catches your eye. Maybe a nice bust half dollar. It won't pay your college tuition but it might beat inflation, if you are lucky. If you want appreciation, stick the $100 in and ING Orange savings account and let it sit...and feel free to add any additional money ...lol. It's better than a savings account at your local bank and it's not collecting dust under your mattress. Sure, I'm also putting a couple rolls away but, I know they won't be worth much in 10 years. The only ones I concentrate on are the errors..both Washington & Adams. Buy a couple slabbed Adams edge lettering varieties and put those back..they have a better chance of appreciation and they are still relatively inexpense now.
Oh ..you mean the coin that has the profile of the woman with a couple of nice sized ta-tas squeezed into a corset so that half of them are showing? That bust?
I would also, instead of saving the unopened rolls back and hope to sell them later, just put the cash back into a savings. These new dollar coins are being hoarded just as much, if not more, than the bicentennial quarters, which are now worth about...uh...25 cents each. I have thought about putting away rolls of the Prez dollars also but realized I can just bank the money and save the same way. I still have an unopened roll of Washingtons which I'll always keep back.
It's ok to save a roll or two from each issue, but I wouldn't count on it making you much money anytime soon. I buy a roll of each just to have. I think it will be neat to someday give the grandkids a few dollars that they've never seen. Not worth much, except in the case of a little present to a future generation. Guy~
Just me being ridiculous You mean this one? No, that's not what I meant. It's a whole dollar, the Maria Theresa thaler. I meant an actual, um...copious visage, in living human form, though I don't know how you would buy one. It was just an uncouth, nonsensical remark. (Mods, please delete my posts in this thread if they are unfit for 1950's US television. Thanks.)
sorry! but I do not think the dealers would really want them at a show. Most dealers have all they want of there own that they get from the banks
thanks for the info, i guess i will just open the rolls and spend them like dollars when i want to spend them but what coin would be a good one in the 100-150 range
At mintages of 300 million coins, my guess is we will be finding CWI original wrapped rolls in original dated/sealed boxes for years to come. If they keep these mintage numbers up next year, it may be for decades to come. The only thing you won't know until you open the rolls is the mint mark. My advice, collect what appeals to you. The closest this comes to being an investment is that if you keep your money in sealed rolls, you will think twice before you crack them open for beer money (which carries some merit).
IMHO, no one really knows what is going to happen with values of the Presidential Dollar series! This was pretty much the same with the State Quarters series and everyone was hoarding them but still the 1999 State Quarters were selling for high prices for many years. Even now, 8 years later, they still fetch a premium over most of the other State Quarters and go for extremely high prices in high MS grades. I think that at the least, the 2007 Presidential Dollars will one day go for high prices, especially if the Mints move the Edge Inscriptions to the Obverse or Reverse of the coins later in the series run. If this happens, then the 2007 Presidential Dollar Errors and any unopened rolls and bags of the coins, will be real hot commodities. Frank
Monkeyman, as has been said, buy something you like. A nice Capped Bust Half Dollar, Standing Liberty Quarter, or Walking Liberty Half Dollar would probably fit the bill, but not if you don't like them. Oh, and your dog in your avatar is very cute. :thumb:
I would collect Morgan Silver Dollars and for $100 you can buy a nice, uncleaned 1878-CC or 1892-CC in lower grades. These two dates are the most affordable and two of the top five dates that are expected to rise the most in value. You could collect a roll each of these, over a short time, and would be a great investment. Remember, buy problem free coins that have not been cleaned or altered by a dealer/collector. Find a seller or dealer you can trust and read how to identify cleaned and altered coins.
