Who's buying the 2017 LESPS?

This will be the third lowest mintage of all ASEs, after 1995-W and 2011-S / 2011 Reverse Proof. So for folks who are collecting all of the ASEs, these coins have some value. Otherwise . . . they are just bullion.

On one hand . . . going rate on the 2011s at the famous auction site are about $170+ in PR69. Going rate for the 1995-W in PR69 is north of $3000.

On the other hand . . . you can still get the 2017-S from the Congratulations Set in PR69 for about $100. Until recently I thought that the prices on these factored a built-in an expectation that there would be at least 100K of the 2017 LESPS. Now that it is set at 50,000, I thought that the price would rise. But it hasn't yet.

I bought a couple when the Congrats Set was released, but that is because I collect them. I never intended to flip or sell them. I have have a couple of the 2017 silver proof sets because I collect them, too. I find it interesting that I paid $102.90 for both the 2017 Congratulations Set and the 2017 silver proof set . . . and yet they are selling this 2017 LESPS for $139.95. What am I missing here?

Personally , , , I do not see much flip opportunity here.

And since I already bought all of these coins (and more - the proof nickel, the proof Sacagawea dollar, and the proof penny) from the mint earlier this year for less money . . . I am passing on these. YMMV.

Nothing, in the past it has just been an overpriced set that got little to no attention. Obviously the ASE changes that this year but in terms of the pricing there is just a random packaging or because they can premium on it

$37 for packaging? You're probably right, but it reminds me of a Clint Eastwood line from the movie "The Enforcer": "That's a h___uva price to pay for being stylish!"

The 2017 LESPS sets are available! Anyone order 1 or 2? I ordered 2, for me and my son.

Ordered 2 even though I have a 2017-S already in my Dansco.

A little surprised that this offering has not sold out just yet. Will this end up being another US Mint turd?

The limit of 2 will slow down the Big boys somewhat. I think it will be a good investment for my granddaughter in 20 years.

I bouht mine right at noon. I have previous years too. It's just one of those "collectable/ investments" like I had in all the Congratulation Sets ... which seemed to have paid off nicely. :)

I also bought the 2016/2017 ASE Proof Bundle set, you know, just because maybe someone will pay $1900 for the packaging down the road. :)

Also got the Doolittle and Navy Bicentennial bronze medals because they have some cool designs.

I was stunned they were still available by the time I got free from work and tried to order. To be honest, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm going to get a "we made a mistake" email.

Buy the set because you like it not because you think it's going to be worth something in the future. Although if the LESPS is worth more in the future that's an added bonus.

I bought two sets, finished my order at 12:01. I don't do moderns, but I bought into the hype, and it will be a nice gift for my son and daughter if it doesn't go up in price.

Do you guys actually open the (shipping) boxes, or do you store them in the full original mint packaging?

The only reason not to open the shipping boxes is if you are having them graded. Grading companies usually want them still in the sealed box from the mint.

It still appears to be available four and a half hours later. I'm on the fence still, and I was hoping that maybe they'd be sold out so I wouldn't have to make a decision. Anyone have any opinions about the set that would push me off the fence in either direction? :p

(Yes I know that's not a great way to decide to buy a coin or not)

ModernCoinMart was buying these for $180 from people. Now people are getting emails from ModernCoin backing out, saying they have met what they wanted to buy.

It doesn't slow them down when they really want something. Plenty of things have sold out in minutes in low house limits. They're just not very enthusiastic about them which seems to reflect pretty much everyone's thoughts. Plenty of people are considering getting it but the LESP set is very very unpopular and apparently even the ASE can't save it.

Took a small risk and bought one - its still a low mintage and has a special ASE. I collect ASE and silver sets from the US mint so its in keeping with my "likes" even though I do keep an eye on value .....its not my only decision in purchasing these things. Not going to sell anything I buy for at least 10 years or more and many will stay with me to the end and be handed down to my kids. But ya - I purchased at end of the day and expected I had missed out - so something going on there with interest.
