Did I strike gold?!

    Here's a coin that was in my lot of dirty, crusty romans. It passed my strong jewelers magnet. Is it gold? Electrum? Or just the color of the patina? Bronze constantine to the left for comparison. Go easy on me. :)

    Gold would not be pitted like that. You've probably got something made of Orichalcum or an otherwise very brassy bronze.

    Bronze. Gold doesn't look like this. And you won't find gold in uncleaned coin lots.

    Orichalcum. Many Roman provincial issues were struck in this metal.

    Well, yes. I'm old fashioned and tend to erroneously use the two terms synonymously. Kind of like I still tend to call a Nomos a Stater.
