I know this coin is rare but i truly have no reference to its value. I am happy to receive any all feedback you are willing to provide. Thank you all for your assistance.
Most desirable designs in the US are depicting celebrated occasions or people. That event isn't one of those. Just because it's rare, doesn't make it have value, desirability does.
First, welcome to the neighborhood! I think this is a medal, not a coin. Medals do not have a face value like coins, so their value is predicated on what someone is willing to pay for them. The only way you can determine that value would be to find previous sales records or list it for auction and let the public determine its value. Chris
Flip it over and give us a shot of the other side. Germany did issue a medal of the assassination but I can't find a picture of yours.
Well, I guess there is your answer. It is worth $10,000 - as long as someone is willing to pay that much.
$229 based on the info in that auction. If the asking price on EBay is $10,000 I find myself wondering how much the seller paid for it.
For the love of god.... There is absolutely nothing even remotely sporting about dragging such a massive hook through freshly-chummed waters. "...Unsure exactly how many were minted but it is assumed to be a very minimal amount and because of its rarity this coin is bound to be extremely desired and valuable to a large amount of collectors..." Apparently, much is "assumed" by this one....
To an extent, sure, but this is a little much; do you disagree? Not only has he essentially admitted to knowing next to nothing about the "coin" (sic), but is asking well over 40x it's would-be melt value, all while fluffing it up to be something both highly desirable and highly valuable to a wide variety of collectors. Fortunately, his asking price likely so ridiculously high that he's priced himself out of suckerdom, but doesn't change the also likely fact that this is another black eye upon a hobby already permanently scarred by them. I could certainly respect the fact he believes there's potential for a large collector premium, but is completely negated by his rush to cast a baited hook.
Thank you all for your input, to the one that asked for a picture of the other side here you go. At the end of the day I know that 10,000 is most likely highly above the coins true value however with not finding any past auction results or previous sales pertaining to this "Medal" I really didn't know what to do. Like others that have already stated this medal is worth what someone is willing to pay.
https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/co...tion__silver_german_issue/311955/Default.aspx The silver version of this same German medal sold in the above store for $110.00. The gold version is likley worth melt value plus a small premium - maybe $400 to $500 in total, IF you can find a buyer, IMHO.
Yes, "melt plus small premium" was my instinct as well, but of course I don't know anything about it. I wouldn't buy it - not for $10K and not for anything above melt. It's just a bit macabre and tacky. I find it interesting that it says "Oro" and "Ley" (Spanish) on this apparently German medal.
Do they have other "coins" in this series like Hitler commits suicide in a bunker; Mussolini hung by his heels; the hanging of the Nazi war criminals; the execution of Timothy McVeigh? All seem like good subject for such a bottom feeding company.
I was especially impressed by Kennedy on one side and Oswald on the other. That is a macabre flip coin there.
Look at what I ended up with in a lot I recently purchased. Both appear to be silver and are dollar sized. Prooflike. From what little I have been able to ascertain, they were likely struck in the USA sometime circa 1970s ... but why? Part of a "Great Villains of History" set? Who knows. PS- I just noticed they got Stalin's death date wrong. He croaked in 1953.
