Very nice addition as always! Personally I don't know enough to give an educated answer but I don't see any obvious signs of it being a fake (given I know of few) so hopefully it is real! Thanks, Jacob
I would like to ask my apologies to all members of the community who felt injured with my previous post. I didn’t wrote that the coin in question is a forgery, but I raised suspicions based on facts that I exposed to Bing through a private conversation. I’m new here in CT, and of course I know that my opinion can be questioned. This is not a matter to me and I respect that. I also respect all opinions. Yes, I can say that is notorious the production (or commerce) of forgeries (superfakes, others with artificial patines, others less convincing) from Spain has been known for long time. I have a lot of contacts with numismatists from Portugal, where I got information about a flood of ancient (Roman and Celtic-iberians) and medieval coins. This is not a fresh news. I’m part and active member of the largest online Numismatics community in Portuguese language about 10 years. This is an old issue and notorious over there. I also have many coins purchased in Spain, without any problem. But I just take great care of some sellers and the provenance of the coins. I think that if there is 1% of doubts about the authenticity of a coin, however much I feel sorry for it, I’d rather leave it. But it's just my opinion. I have some convictions that made me suspect the Bing’s coin, with all due respect. Of course, for ethical reasons, I will not put them publicly, but I can answer them in particular for anyone. If I’m wrong, once again, my sincerely apologies.
No need for apologies. I respect your opinion as I respect others on this forum. I would rather those of us on CT be honest with our thoughts than otherwise. Again, there is no need to apologize and I appreciate your concern and honesty.
Excellent addition! Your MA collection is coming along rather nicely. NB: I concur with the others, I see nothing suspicious. Enjoy it!
If you think there's a chance it's fake, own it and explain why. If you're willing to cast doubt on his coin but not willing to explain why, you're wasting everyone's time. There is absolutely no valid reason to question a coin publicly without giving reasons why.
I understand your sentiment absolutely, but giving the benefit of the doubt, it may be that if the reason is published online, it raises the spectre of a defamation suit. Not all countries have such permissive laws regarding defamation as the U.S., for good or ill. But if that's not the problem, I certainly would like the reason to be made public.
I understand and respect your opinion, but here I have to disagree. The main interested person (Bing) has already been alerted by me in private conversation about the reasons. As I wrote above, I’m willing to answer any question about this coin in private conversation on inbox. But I learned something in this thread: to keep with me a certain opinion about the authenticity of a particular coin and only expose it to its owner.
Here I have to disagree. If there is a question in your mind, it is best to express that opinion. Personally, I do not get offended and thank you for your PM regarding the subject. But if you have questions, isn't it best to have others look at a particular example with a more critical eye? I would have posted that there was a question after your PM just to get everyone's opinion.
No way, Jose!! ... unless you have bullets in your gun, don't be drawing that bad boy and spoutin' tales of fakes => if you're gonna throw down, then you'd better have some examples in your holster!!
Great looking coin Bing, looks authentic to me as well, although I would be more worried that it is LEG VIII. Don't want to be a party pooper......
