I'm afraid I don't have one of the good ones with the bug eyes. Mine is an early 4th Century BCE style.
Nice Tet @jb_depew ! And everyone else' post pics are great! I made my first Ancients purchase with these, and I refuse to upgrade them. I REALLY like the bankers' marks, as well as the ones on Athena's face, which is supposed to be a big no-no in the Greek World. Kinda fun that these are THICKER than the flan-width of many coins that I have. I agree with others who say not to try to clean it. It is fine the way it is. Any surface adhesions just make it look old--which it is.
JP-Depew, That is a very nice example of this type. You picked well! I agree that you do not need to clean it. It looks great as it is. I have a quite a number of these (25 in total), but many with test cuts. I bought the majority of them back at a time when there seemed to be lots on the market and affordable / available in bulk. Today, I get consistently outbid on each one at auction. I have bid many times and I have not won a single one this year. Like Doug, I would one day like an early owl, but they are slightly above my budget range for a single coin. I also would like to own one that is in a much higher grade (ideally "as struck"), but again budgetary considerations currently steer me away from spending so much on a single coin. Here is the best one from my collection. I like that it has a full incuse square. The photo does not do it justice. It was taken on a 12 year old digital compact camera. I am retaking all photos of my owls. Peter
