Ugly worn mounted coin

I chose 3 of my ugliest but "curious" coins .The first is of Julia Domna, the second is from Venice. As for the third, I bought it because I thought it represented a red Indian.

I bid on this Justin & Sophia coin cuz I wanted a coin from my namesake. I won the auction and had been bidding on another one in better condition and clarity minutes later and won that one too. But I've still got this one. It has a lovely brown and green patina on it and is decent in the hand, but it's still mangled.

 

I have some (a lot of) ugly coins in my collection. But they are very dear ones! Most have been acquired a long time ago, still in the beginning of my collection. Nowadays, the ugly ones come in if they are rare, have some interesting particularity, or still priceless in better conditions. Here’s an example of a denarius of MarcAntony and Julius Caesar, that if a better one appears and I have conditions, I will be substitute by another.

 

Trebly ugly... a cut fourree Neapolis stater.

 

Shame about that coin @Orfew. Here's my rather ugly Athens tet, I still like it though.

 

Hate to say it, but I cannot call any of my coins "ugly". I got them for some reason or another, and they may be beat up, had a side completely rubbed away, holed, what ever, but I purposely captured them for some-odd reason and kept them. I have a bag of really grungy Constantine era LRB's that I give out to people, especially kids, and it is fun to watch their face light up when I tell them what they are.

This one is beat up, but it is among the group of 5 of my first Ancients purchase over 20 years ago... beat up Owl Tets, and an Alexander III Drachm. Due to their beat up look, I went on to continue to collect cool placemarkers in History...
