My question is can the grading of NTC be trusted? The coin looks very nice and white, great luster and no apparent scratches. Should I have this re-graded by PCGS or NGC?

Can you post some photos of the coin? Also if you can give us an idea on how much you have in the coin we might be able to help you decide if you should send it to NGC or PCGS.

Most of the time if you don't know what you are doing NTC coins are overgraded. You can of course always find some that they missed but most of the time if you don't know how to grade then you should stay with the ones that are trusted. NGC, PCGS, ICG, ANACS, PCI.

I paid about $30.00 for this coin and I figured it had to be too good to be true since the real MS65 is valued at 27K. I will post some pictures of it this evening. I was tempted to take it out of the slab and send it to PCGS, or is it better to just send it in the slab?

I would guess that you got the $27k from the PCGS website? If so then you can take that and a $1 and buy a coke. That value, along with the rest of the PCGS price guide is a piece of junk.
If you check the values at Heritage you will find that the last few MS65's (3 total this year) have sold for around....

Chances are really high that yours is not MS65....even an MS62 sells for around $100. So the good news is that even if you got a low grade MS coin that you might be able to sell it for alittle...

If you can post photos we can pretty much tell you what it would grade at PCGS or NGC. And if you decide to send it to one of them I would suggest cracking it out.

I'd post some pics first before taking it out of the slab, and we can help you from there! Never know, might be a 65. :thumb: Not likely, but a possibility.

In general, no. Usually overgraded by several points, and they can't detect cleaned / altered coins.

Post up pics ! Good coins can be found in NTC holders.

My experience with NTC has been very positive so far - all be it only for Lincolns. Yes, they are over-graded. I find they are almost always over by a point, occasionally 2. The ones I have are more consistent than ICG. Not as accurate, but more consistent. I have found no problem coins, but mine are not expensive coins either. I believe that I am getting coins that NGC would grade MS-66 for half price or less when NTC calls them MS-67.

Some, early, NTC's are very accurately graded, later ones (?) who knows.

In my experience, I have seen most NTC coins overgraded by one to two grades! If you purchased the coin for only $30, then the Coin Dealer or other Seller, was sure that the coin was overgraded and knows that a coin graded by NTC is not as highly sought after as a coin graded by the top TPG's. Therefore, the coin in all reality is probably an MS-63 and generally would fetch more as an MS-63 in a PCGS slab than a MS-65 in a NTC slab!

Can NTC consistently be trusted in verifying the authenticity of coins?

Not from what I understand. There has been some questionable coins found in their slabs.
