Hi Coin Talk Community. My name is Ashley Will and I am a librarian. A patron came to me with coin questions and I have been trouble finding precise answers, so I thought I would ask your community of experts for assistance. He had three questions concerning this coin set. The pictures are from an eBay auction selling the exact same item as the picture he gave me of his own. Question #1: What year did The Morgan Mint close? I have had trouble with this answer but I believe I have found an answer using Reference USA database. A company called Morgan Mint LLC exists in Weston, CT according to Reference USA but another company named Morgan Mint in Hicksville, NY owned by Moshe Malamud shows its last year of operation was 2010. Does that sound correct to you coin experts? Question #2: When did the company make the set of 9 pennies? I am having trouble finding any answer for this since information from Morgan Mint past sets seems hard to come by or I am looking in the wrong places. Question #3: How much did they originally sell the set for? I am having trouble finding anything to answer that as well. I would greatly appreciate any help you can give if you answer here edited Thanks in advance and sincerely, Ashley Will
Welcome to CoinTalk! Morgan's are Silver Dollars last minted in 1921 by the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. They were minted from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921. None were minted from 1905 to 1920. As for the cents, they were put together sometime after 1997, since there is a 1997 cent. Made to sell with one coin from 9 decades included. The value is minimal on the set. Each coin originally sold for $0.01. As for the Morgan mint, it was a private mint and I cannot answer when it closed.
First, welcome to the neighborhood ! Second, it is not a good idea to post your e-mail address on a public forum. If you can't delete it, yourself, perhaps one of our mods @GDJMSP will do it for you. Since the mint you mentioned is private, it isn't that easy to obtain information about the products they put together. No, they did not make the coins. They only made the plastic case. Those Lincoln cents are not really worth a whole lot. Chris
I was about to ask how do you edit a post to remove email address. Thank you for doing that for me. I will know better now.
I do not, so perhaps I shouldn't be posting here. I figured this would be a good launching pad for research though.
Off topic from original topic but still coin related, what is a good place to purchase coin sleeves to hold coins?
The best way to have someone contact you on these forums is by sending you a "private message". You would see "Inbox" highlighted at the top-right of the page next to your username. You can also send a private message, yourself, by simply clicking on a member's username and from the pop-up that follows select "Start a Conversation". Chris
If you are referring to the wrappers used for separate denominations like 1c, 5c, 10c, 25c, 50c & dollar coins, you might ask your bank if they have any. They will usually give them to you for free. Chris
