I have an silver dollar dated 1888 what is odd about it is the "lady Liberty"face is rased as if bursting out of the coin! The back of the coinhas the eagle and United states of America One Dollar and in GOD We Trust. It is dated 1888. Has any one ever seen a coin like this before? Any idea of how I can get a value?
Yes we need a photo but I think you have a Morgan dollar...infact...I'm 99.999% sure you do. The photo will help us grade the coin and that will help us know how much its worth. Most of the time the value can be from $10-$30 and up. Speedy
I Looked at some pics of Morgan Dollars online and I don't think that is what I have. MY dig camera is not working so I will have to post a pic in the next couple days. There is literally a face bursting out of the coin almost 1/2 inch! Its the strangest thing I have ever seen! I am not sure if someone has altered the coin and welded it to the coin or what. If someone did alter it they did a fantastic job of it.
I don't think it is a silver round either..gosh I wish I could post a pic right now! I will get that pic as soon as possible for anyone who is curious about it as well. By the way..above the head it has written-"E*pluribus*unum*"
Ok, had to post pics in Gallery- What Do you think? Ok, The pics are lousy, but at least they give you a general idea what I am talking about. They are in the General Gallery. Look at them and let me know what you think! Thanks!
Odd 1888 US Silver Dollar I tried to upload the pics here but couldn't- they are in the general gallery
I went and look but can't tell a thing...try to take the photo using magnifying glass...hold the glass in front of the lens of your camera and take the photo when it looks clear. Speedy
Looks like some sort of novelty piece to me. It certainly has no numismatic value, but depending on its metal content it may have some bullion value. Also dependent on the artistic quality it may have some value to collectors of novelty pieces.
I think it is a real silver U.S. coin. I just think it has been altered...that someone added the potruding liberty head...(They did a fantastic job)I am curious to know more about it. I will try to get some better pics
Hard to be positive from the pics, but I am pretty sure what you have is called a "pop-up" coin. These are pieces that are altered after they were struck, and many types of coins have been altered in this way. The Morgan dollar ones on ebay typically sell in the $25-50 range.
I have posted new photos for you to view and respond to. I will have to get a magnifying glass so I can get some photos that are more clear- thanks for the idea!
What you have there is a novelty item. They are made by making a 3D cast of the face and then pushing it into the coin and stretching the metal out to provide the relief. Typically they sell for a few dollars each.
I have a mint condition very shiny 1888 Morgan coin USA one dollar coin check the photo I attach here anyone knows how much is it
