Wouldnt luster be a factor in the technical grade or when people use "technical" are they basically referring to just the surfaces/strike?
Lets use know what happens with the vam . If yours is a earlier die state then the one on vam world, the double hair bun should be easy to see and I'm not seeing it on your close ups ...
I am having fun learning the camera/tether combo. So many combinations of light/ magnification. I will see if I can capture the doubling on the bun a little better.
1) contact marks 2) Hairlines 3) Luster 4) eye appeal Those are the main 4 from the ANA Grading Standards. Strike, Rim, Originality are three others that I have heard people talk about.
Yeah i know those are all factors in grading in general was just wondering about the use of "technical" people use in GTGs if they leave out things like luster and eye appeal which maybe need to be judged in hand.
I use "technical" to refer to contact marks, carbon spots, and strike. Then consider eye appeal of overall appearance with luster and toning as a bonus to the technical grade. I doubt that this is really proper, but it's the way that I've always done it.
The way that I always understood it is the same except that luster is part of the technical grade where toning is not
The eye appeal is considered by me, a bonus to the technical grade, Yet, something that I have adopted is S Strike L Luster E Eye appeal C Contact marks To me when considering a MS coin. Eye appeal comes in play before the contact marks, there are a lot Pretty coins out there, in low MS.
While I don't disagree at all, I just consider it a bonus to the grade since it could very well be lacking just about all luster in a 63 holder. Plus keep in mind that this is my basis for GTG and not necessarily what I think the grade should be. I agree with 63 on this one, but have noticed that many coins with higher luster tend to get a pretty point added similar to the grade bump for attractive toning.
