I'm doing a double set of Old Silver Commemoratives, raw and slabbed. I bought this for the raw set, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have it slabbed. Two sets of images, as the lighting changes the toning. What would you grade it?
Thanks! I was looking for a slabbed, and I saw this one. I like toners, but usually don't fall in lust with them. This one I did, and while I didn't pay a 'premium' per se, I paid more then I wanted to for a raw coin. But I really, really like this one!
Yea it is amazing with some great toning, just wondering what's the size and how much did you pay? Thanks, Jacob
@Youngcoin - I'm going to use this in the 'Toning Premium Thread Part 2' if I win again, so I won't be posting what I paid. You'll have to watch that thread to see the price.
AU or 63. The fields on the obverse make me wonder if the coin has been messed with. Either way, I like it.
LOVELY COIN! I GUESS IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU HAVE IN THE COIN, ON WHETHER TO GRADE IT, BUT THAT'S YOU! I WOULD SEND IT!
I agree with Larry. On the obverse there do appear to be a few surface hairlines. The grade looks like it's about a 64. But what do I know?
Being as "maintenance" lines are common and can be all over the type, I'd want to see it in hand which, of course, doesn't help.
The cabinet friction (rev.) and possible finger print (by the pan obv) MS64, I'd like to say 58. But, the eye appeal says MS, Tone down the contrast for the Toned thread.
FWIW, there has been very little appreciation in value, if any, over the last 20+ years for most of the Classic Commems. You may want to rethink your idea of submitting this or any other of the commems for grading. You might be able to find them already graded for a reasonable price. When I sold my Classic Commems a few years ago, I did little better than break even and all of mine were in the range of MS65-67. Chris
MS 64+ ...at least from the pictures, I don't see any wear and I think the toning will help the grade (an eye appeal addition of the "+")
I'm glad you noticed that as well P&G. I hope in hand it's not there, I mean the first two pics don't look MS to me at all, not with the fingerprint look. I hope I'm wrong. With that said, I wish I owned one of these as I've always loved the coin design on both sides! I wish you the best Beefer, I just don't know. I can't even guess a grade on this one. Best of Luck!!
The top coin is an AU58 with an old cleaning and the bottom ccoin is an MS66 + LOL. Yes, I know....... Just goes to show how tough it is to grade from pictures only.
What a beauty, if it were mine I would be getting it SLABBED. To me it looks like a very strong MS 62 good luck let us know what you do.
