Anoob & I were sorting through a bunch of ancient material when Anoob came across this little coin. He quietly showed it to me and about 14 seconds later I had it purchased. Anoob went home with what he wanted & I went home with the coins I wanted. We call it teamwork.

    MACEDON, Tragilos
    AR Hemiobol 450-410 B.C.

    0.30 grams, 7 mm.
    Obv: Simple ear of grain
    surrounded by beaded border
Rev: T R I A in the quarters of an
    inverse relief square.
    Grade: Exceptionally nice. Much
    better than the average EF
    with attractive toning.
    Other: Sear 1470.

This little coin is well centered and well preserved with sharp details. (It’s either a good find or a good counterfeit). The little thing even has a legend that you can read without magnification.

    Wa da ya think?
Please post ‘em if you got ‘em.

That's a fantastic coin. I'm always amazed at how much detail they got on such little coins.

Am I the only one that wonders if there was a poliical connection with Metapontum?

Tragilos is geographically far away from Metapontum. Tragilos is just a short distance up-stream from Amphipolis which was a city originally founded by the Athenians. Here is my Metapontum example:
