Both look like they were dipped lightly. One AUNC, one cleaned ABU

I see the wear now. Look at the hair right above the ear.

That's not always a sign of wear. The flat spot in the hair is often due to the coin not being fully struck. The easiest way to detect wear is that it will show a different color in the wear spots.

Now, that is not to be confused with a frost break on Morgans. With Morgans the devices often have frost, and the coins when they rub against each other in the bags will often develop frost breaks on the devices. And these breaks can appear to be a different color. But once you've looked at enough of them you learn to tell the difference rather quickly.

So flyers, you have the coin in hand and tell far better than we can with pics - can you see a color difference ?

The 99 I go a 63 on, might have been dipped, missing some luster, but ya never know, might be the age. The 02 is a toughie, gorgeuos coin, but it has an unnatural shine IMO. So I'm kinda on the fence with it. But, I think it could possibly be a 64. :thumb: Beautiful coins.

    GDJMSP-
I really don't see any color difference at all. The guy in the coin store thought that was wear around the ear but I'm not really sure. Going to send it to NGC since I have those 5 coupons for grading. Hopefully it doesn't come back a no grade for dipping. The 1899 is a better date so I hope it grades out well. I will post the results when I get it back in a few weeks. Thanks for everyones help with these coins. New to collecting Morgans dollars so all the great comments and suggestions has been very helpfull.

Got my grades back from NGC. You nailed them both. The 1902-O got a MS63 and the 1899 got a MS64. Also got a 1904-O that got a MS65 which was a pleasant surprise!

Sounds like pretty good results. Glad the 1899-O turned out alright.
