Thanks - is that what to expect in all boxes

 

Are you trying to break my heart? Is this a box you recently bought from a bank? Those are FANTASTIC results In my book. I've been searching boxes for a few months and have yet to find an Indian Head, and usually average 10-15 wheats per box.

 

1st box at the bank - and I think I found a 69s DDO - but I can't really get a good picture with my phone but I have a digital magnifier that plugs into my computer 1000x. Woohoo coming Monday

That is exceptional, you might have hit someone's collection dump.

 

I too would rate your box as well above average...not the mythical "dream box" we read about from time to time, but very well done! Congratulations!

 

I am suspicious that you have someone's collection that has been disposed of because of the number of steel and the number of dates with all the mints in order; be sure to look closely at them for errors and key dates.

 

2nd week ever looking at coins... educating myself. The group here has been very kind and willing to impart knowledge. TYTSo is the 9 and 5 a result of Die wear?

 

My suggestion is to look at this list and then look up additional information and puctures of them on other sites.

Also I suggest sepating them into four groups before scanning for varieties:
Shields, Zinc Memorials, Copper memorials, and Wheats. This way you don't have to think about so many different types of varieties at once.

Of course there are other varieties you can search for but that is a solid list of the most striking IMO. Also learing about how different varieties are struck and what too look for visually as far as doubling, RPMs and the like will help in you endeavors should you choose to continue but I feel my last post is a good starting point. One more thing is if you don't already have a jewlers loupe, you'll probably want to get one.

 

Adding to the above suggestions, think about an inexpensive digital microscope; they can be had on Amazon and elsewhere for less than $30, the added expense is the software to take pictures, edit and post, but being able to pass a coin under the scope and see it on your computer speeds up your search and see more detail.

 

I roll searched quite often for a 6 month stretch last year and never found a single IHC or steelie in a roll.
So yes, I'd say that's quite the haul. Hope your luck continues.
