    I have recently decided that I am going to take a pretty decent plunge, atleast for me. Probably not much to you guys, but I am going to save up to buy myself a 1909 S wheat cent, maybe in Fine condition if I can do that. For me that will be by far the most I ever spent on a coin, so wish me luck. What would be the prices that I should expect to pay for the 09 S in G4 to fine condition? Any advice anyone can give me on purchasing it? Thanks ahead of time guys.

    Good luck, I believe that the coin will appreciate (a lot) by the time of the centennial (2009) and with the special cents to be minted.

    In good, Trends is $110,
    VG= $125
    F= $135

    If you can do it, go for the F-12.
    For $25 additional you are getting a far nicer coin.
    I believe in this piece, currently I have accumulated a few of them.
    Grades range from VG thru VF-35.
    And I plan to add to this little hoard if I can find nice pieces properly graded (perferably slabbed).

    Ugly?
    OOps, I was in the wrong thread.

    G-4 would be around $100 today.

    Phoenix, this is great that you've decided on something you like and set yourself a goal. In my humble opinion, it is better to have one nice coin than 10 cheap-o coins. At those price levels, I would also highly recommend saving up slightly more money for the much nicer F coin. You'll be much happier in the long run. I save up money all the time to be slightly nicer coins. I get much more enjoyment out of them and you'll feel good that you set yourself a goal and worked hard to achieve it.

    I want S VDB

    A really low grade, like, [stoner voice] Ummm [end stoner voice], what's the lowest grade that exists?; I want that one. (In an S 1909 VDB)

    What's an ugly type?

    Good Luck and be careful Phoenix. That is a BIG dangerous leap if you're going to buy raw.... :D

    Thanks, that is one thing I am planning on. Wish I thought of this back in march, but what can you do. That's what I am planning on doing. Getting the best I can afford. Maybe get enough to get a VF, or might come across a deal. Thanks for the advice!

    Thanks! Yes, that is what I am planning on. Rather have this than a bunch of coins Idon't care for lying around. What is really awesome I feel is it is a coin I want and like, and also is a good investment. Trust me, I'll need to work my butt off to achieve this goal, but it'll be worth it in the end! Thanks!

    Thanks Bone. I know, that is why I am going to learn all I can on the 09 S. And yes, I am going to have to buy raw I am afraid. But knowledge is power, and if used correctly, can be a heck of a lot worth it. :D Thanks Bone!

    That is my plan, thanks!

    Oh yeah, I know. So you guys know, it is only the 09 S I am trying to aquire, not the VDB. That is way out of my budget, can barely try to do this one. But yeah, hopefully it will be worth it. Thanks for the advice man!

    And now I was wondering, couldn't find anything, but is there a site or something that I can learn about the 09 S, such as what to look out for on the mintmark, and other things like that? Thanks guys!
