We have deal. You sell me all your coins without or imcomplete coa and box, dirty box and scractches. I buy all from you. It's ok that you benifit. As long as coins are nice, I don't mind at all.
Also, it's a risk these days sending anything back to the mint. What if they stop production on the silver eagles, like they have the gold and platinum...wouldn't you feel silly returning and not getting a replacement because of a crease in the cardboard? It's a personal choice.[/QUOTE] This is exactly what I was worried about. Sending everything back, and either waiting a very long time for the new coin to be returned, OR, not getting it back at all!! I didn't mean to start a battle here. Just wanted some input and discussion on how yinz feel about the COMPLETE package. Whether or not yinz consider the C.O.A. and the packaging part of the complete package. If I was going to take the coin out of the original package and either put it in an album, or send it to be graded, then the C.O.A. and the package mean nothing. But if I decide to keep the coin as I received it from the Mint, then yes, the ENTIRE package is important. I think that I'll look for an empty box and C.O.A. on E-Bay.....IF it is cheaper to buy that, than the S & H to return the coin to the Mint. Thanks to all for the discussion. It really has been interesting. And again, I'm sorry for starting a "battle". LOL swick
Precisely my point. At this stage in the game, you might not get anything back or it might take a few months to ship. You have to decide what your risk level is. If the coin was damaged ...it would be a no brainer. You didn't start a "battle." Some people like boxes and some don't. There is enough room in the sandbox for both types. Some of the kids however get a little testy and throw some fits, but you just have to keep it all in perspective and consider the source. At the end of the day, you just try to take the high road. People are funny that way. Best of luck with your situation.
Since I collect coins, and not boxes, I've been able to buy a few commemoratives at discounted prices because the mint packaging was not in perfect condition. Sometimes it seems like the coins are worth less in a damaged box than when there is no box at all. That doesn't make sense to me, but everyone is free to arrange their collection however they want. If the damaged box bothers you, and it probably does or this thread wouldn't exist, then you should try to exchange it for undamaged packaging, and pray that the coins are in as good condition in the replacement as they were in the one you returned.
The arrogant statement refers to your choice of words and the character in which you responded to the question about the situation regarding a damaged box. Now lets talk about manners. When you belittle and attack people by making comments such as "It's a box ..let it go" people will tend to not want to start conversations on this board. You wouldn't say something like that to someone in person and you shouldn't phrase your comments like it here. Try to positive. You could have phrased your comment better by just stating "Personally, I pay for nice coins" and maybe end it with something pleasant such as "good luck." Obviously the originality of having a mint box and COA are important to people as many people have stated here. As far as "old timers" just how old are you. I am 30, far from a old timer unless you are 12 or 13, which you just may be. Hope this makes your use of CT more usefull to everyone. "Good Luck"!
I don't care about packaging, I care about the coin. But I know that because some of the market does care, those people will choose someone else's instead of mine, thus putting downward pressure on mine if I'm attempting to sell. Given these are modern items made in modern quantities, it's not likely that a coin in a "good box" will be unavailable at any time.
Dear Sir, Thank you for taking the time to give your opinion on my diction. My original comment, that you found belittling and attacking, was nothing of the sort. In my opinion, there are bigger concerns in life than a dented box and I advised that he ...let it go. There was no name calling or swearing involved. Yes, I would say something like that face to face. Often times, folks get to bogged down in the day to day to see the forest for the trees. I would not hesitate to say to a cronie ..it's an "envelope" (insert any object) ...let it go. It's not worth crying over. I was not negative. The comment was matter of fact. I agree that mint boxes hold a special place in many forum members hearts and that's fine. It's a personal choice. I would never have guessed that you are 30 ..your posts sound like scoldings I get from my grandpa, so I thought you were like 65. Obviously, you don't approve of the way I express my thoughts and that's fine but please don't poke with anymore sticks. I'd be fine to coexist if you are fine with leaving me alone. If you'ld rather engage in a healthy debate, I'm all for that as well. Until next time.
How much is it going to cost to send it back for replacement? Will that cost be made up with a new box, assuming of course that the second box is in good shape?
Priority mail would run $4.85 - $5.15 + delivery confirm $0.35 + Insurance $1.85. Better off trying to pick one up off Ebay for $4.00 including shipping and not deal the USPS along with waiting.
