    That is a stellar coin, @panzerman!! The cross ancrée is fairly common on Merovingian pieces, any idea of the reason/significance?

    Here's my Merovingian denier, from St. Denis/Catullacum, a little later c. 700-725 (Charles Martel's time). All the Merovingian deniers are later than your tremissis. Early on they seem to have had a lot of gold to make coins from, and didn't bother with fiddly small change in silver!

    Great little coin from a mighty interesting time: the Dark Ages. Probably they were not darker than others, but nothing much is known about Europe between Romans and Vikings.

    Very cool addition!

    Careful or the Medievalists will get you! ;) Actually there is plenty of stuff that has survived between the colapse of the Western Roman empire and the end of the Viking invasions. A TON! (I'm in a class right now covering the Middle Ages...lots to learn!)
