As a warning from one who has been there. Be careful when you decide you only want to collect type A coins and sell off your type B, C and D items. A few years or decades later you will have morphed into a different collector interested in type B and hate yourself for sending away a coin that you have never been able to replace. It is not all that hard to get over not buying something long ago but the hurt when you learn that the coin you really want now was once yours is harder to forget.
I admire your dedication to reaching your goal. I often have trouble staying on course with my ancient collecting goals which originally was just Judaean coins. I had to broaden it to Biblical Kingdoms Too many beautiful coins were passing me by.
No way! It's always a great pleasure to me to see a new acquisition. I'm always also rooting for you to new Legs! I'm a fan of them!
I haven't lost interest in other Roman and Greek coins, and I certainly have not sold off any coins to finance my latest craze. It's just that I am so focused on the MA Legionary denarii, I haven't looked to buy anything else for a couple of months. It still may take me a while to finish this sub-collection, so, in the meantime, I will most likely start looking and buying some other coinage. Beware you Roman Republican collectors!
Thanks for the warning @dougsmit , but Im not selling any of my Greeks, Romans, or Parthians to to finance my Gordian III craze, or my 3rd Century focus in general. I did sell my Arabic, Indian, and medievals, but that is because I lost interest in them in general, so the money is going to finance Greek, Roman Republic, and more non-Gordie 3rd Century coins. The Greek, Roman, and Parthian coins in my collection are not for sale at all, thats for sure.
@Bing that is a fantastic example of the type! Every coin I picked up this year, with the exception of one, has been a Roman coin of some type. This is the closest I get to focused collecting.
Hear, hear! At one point, I decided to focus just on Roman bronze, and as a result I no longer own any of these beauties: Flavius Victor siliqua: Pertinax denarius: Augustus Signis Receptis denarius: Hadrian denarius (I really miss that Victory) and quinarius: At least this Procopius siliqua went to a good home! Bing, I'll never grow tired of your legionary denarii.
I really enjoy your Marc Antony updates, Bing. Keep up the good work. Now, I need to get one of 'em for my collection. Just one. For now...
