Okay, I thought of a fun idea for a post. Not long after I posted my one and only details coin that I paid $83 for, I decided to sell it. I put the money toward this straight graded piece that's a lot easier on the eyes (seller's photos): So my question is, what did I sell the details coin for and what did I pay for the straight graded one?
120 -sold old one 140 -bought new one ...I agree that the new one is easier on the eyes...nice purchase!
Winner! I was expecting most people to guess a large spread between the two, but there was only a $1 difference. I sold the shipwreck coin for $125 and paid $126 on Heritage for the straight graded one. I think the shipwreck pedigree creates more demand, hence the higher price. I didn't regret giving it up though as there are boatloads (pun intended) of Cazador pieces on eBay. I jumped on the straight graded piece because so many of the Bust 8 reales are weakly struck and ugly even in the AU range. Sometime I wouldn't mind having a shipwreck coin from a less common wreck then the Cazador.

WooHoo! I had a weird feeling that even though it was a details coin, it went high enough to almost pay for the other one. Nice buy/sell @KSorbo ! Without a doubt! I was hoping I would get this coin in time in case I won one in this thread, and this coin literally arrived today after a week long delay because of Irma (I live in Florida). 1786 New Jersey Copper, Bridle variety, graded VF details by NGC. As for a non-details coin value, I'm a bit unsure, but this bridle variety straight-graded goes for around $400 on ebay. PCGS puts a 30 at $950, and a 40 at $1,350. NGC has no value guides, but their auction results for 30 or better is $400 and up. What did I pay?
$180. There is one Bridle variety that is much scarcer than the other. Do you know which one this is? If it is the scarcer one I will change my guess.
I paid $111.78 ($125.75 with BP) at GC. I felt I got a really good deal on it. @Johndoe2000$ takes this one!
