If you use a magnifying glass you can read (in Latin) the emperors name left of back of head.

Please move this to the Ancient forum and include as much information as you can (lettering, marks, description, etc.) Those guys are good. Someone will be able to identify it for you. Also list the location where it was found.

This coin appears to be of brass. The denarius was a silver coin. Depending on its size it could be a Sestertius (silver dollar size) a Dupondius (half dollar size) or an As (quarter size). Also this assumes it was coined at a Roman mint and the inscription is in Latin. It is too blurred for me to read. If the inscription is in Greek it is from an eastern Roman Empire provincial mint, which this looks like to me, from about the Second century AD. If you can, try to take a clearer picture to read the inscription and put a modern. known coin next to it for size comparison. Also it does not seem to have been in water for very long, especially in salt water, which does a real job on brass or copper or silver, for that matter.

I think she meant to say,
could you tell us the diameter in millimeters, and the weight in grams?
