Part of the 'deal' we have with our daughter is that she provides my wife and I a cell phone in return for the (grand)childcare we have provided over the last 15 years. Saturday her contract was up so we had to turn in the old phones and get what she now selected. I do not know how many other phones have similar features or Aps available but this one has a feature called Magnifier that can be used as a lighted (or not) magnifying glass. It has a capture button which takes a photo. I have never been a fan of phone photos for coins but using the continuous light rather than the flash allows previewing the results. The light is so close to the lens the results approach what you get with axial lighting or a ring light. I am not going to work on perfecting phone photo techniques; I have a camera for that. Those of you who used a phone might want to investigate the matter. This was hand held and not as sharp as it could be but the point here is the lighing. The sample is my Volusian tetradrachm from Alexandria currently serving time in solitary after a bad experience with bronze disease. Coins in that status did not make the trip to the bank with all the others when we were warned Irma might be coming here. The selection of test subjects is very small today.
Well, this pic is above the average of the ones I try to post here... All the details are well highlighted, IMHO.
Not bad. My experience with using my phone for images is to not use the phone flash, it just washes the image out. The below were taken hand held with a desk lamp at a hotel the other day. You'll notice that they are a bit blurry, but overall pretty representative of the coins in hand. A member here gave me a tip to use something to steady the phone for better images; for the iPhone, a roll of toilet paper is the appropriate height and it really does help, but I didn't use it here.
I have a 5s and my pics ALWAYS suck. My plan is to trick my art student 17 year old daughter into falling in love with photography!
I don't know where the double you post is, but some pics are good, but others a little bit blur. But this happens with me sometimes.
Usually when their posts "disappear", Moderators caught another Troll and booted them. Many start posting nicely, then in other threads or Forums their true colors come out.
I took all of my photos, including this one, with a Galaxy Note 4. It has a 16 MP rear shooter. I now upgraded to a Galaxy Note 8. The 8 has a 12 MP rear shooter, but is dual lens'd and has a better sensor. So far, I'm not impressed and am able to do better on a 3 year old phone. I haven't used my rear phone light as a source yet, but might try it. My most recent photo: One day I'll upgrade to a real camera.
I gave the app a try even though I can zoom (well enlarge) the pic. About the same results either way for me.
I answer you in my poor portuguese with a private message (in respect to our non-portuguese speaking CTfriends). This is an international Forum but its main language is english (or something similar in some cases...)
