Nice coin!! This error is a hard one to find! I keep watching for a nice one in a high grade but from the looks of prices I'll have to settle for a lower grade one.

It is definately a true DD, and a most obvious one.

They are very popular right now it seems. I would be suprised to see one under $1000. I am waiting for the right opportunity to buy one in a grade i can afford.

Looks pretty nice but I would like to see a close up of the doubling. I can only hope to get one from each Die pair so I could get good close up pic.!

    excellent find!

I have found three to date, however, they were cherrypicked from dealers' stocks.

VG-8 is about $24 currently, or the last time that I looked.

    That is a ddr #2?

I have to update my files.
    Thanks for posting.
Funny, I wrote to Coin World a while ago about a 'different' DDR for the 1939 and I was told that it was strike doubling-- but I know strike doubling.
    Apparently this is now accepted.

I have been searching around for any info on " #2" , have not found anything yet. Let me know if you find any info on that variety, or if anyon else knows about it.

I wish that I could tell ya something.
As I said above, I didn't know that it was now accepted.

    edit: ask Variety Nickels.com!
    Or just ask Speedy.

    Alrighty here is some info.

There are 2 types of Doubling on the 1939 Nickel. #1 is the one that everyone thinks of when thinking of the 1939 DDR, and it is the one the Red Book lists. It was first found in 1939 and has been popular ever since. While it is hard to find in UNC it doesn't seem hard to find one with FS! It is est. at 1 - 10 in FS.
The one that tommypski has above is the #1. Doubling is much more strong. The letters seem to be separated. The main points to look at are Monticello and Cents. Breen lists this variety as #2665 and the Fivaz-Stanton number is: FS # 5c - 022.

#2 is still a double die but wasn't widely known untill PAK promoted it.---but the doubling is not as strong and is evident on all of the lettering on the Rev. It is also said to be harder than the #1 to find in Unc. but to tell you the truth I would rather have the #1 than this one anyday. The main points to look at are the same as #1, the last O in Monticello seems to be rather fat on one side kindof like an egg.
Breen does not list this variety and the Fivaz-Stanton number is: FS # 5c - 022.5

The CherryPickers guide list the URS for these as:
    #1 URS-12 (1001 - 2000)
    #2 URS-10 (251 - 500)

    I hope this helps!!

Yes...but I can't place them here because of copyrights. And they aren't online so I can't even tell you a place to go look ;) I'm hoping to find a nice one that I can afford!!
