One question-- Has anyone ever tried Nic-A-Date on SLQ?? I know a guy that has a bag--near $100 face-- of dateless and I wonded if that was possible. I've seen some with MM and even saw a few TY-1's in that bag so I thought I'd give it a try to see if it was a 1916 if Nic-A-Date would work. Thanks Speedy
I don't remember what it is, but there are some diagnostics you can use to determine whether a dateless Type 1 SLQ is a 1916 or a 1917. I believe Cline's book on SLQs mentioned something about it.
I have a collection of them, but it's not very good. When I was much younger (1950's, 60s), I would save each one I found in pocket change. So probably have about 100, but all average circulation. Haven't tried to fill an album with them yet.
I don't recommend using Nic-a-date on anything. It flattens the finish and destroys eye appeal in my opinion. I have no idea what it would do to silver.
Gary Wish we could still find them like that today Susan I've never used it..but thought it might be worth it to find a 1916 SLQ. Does anybody have a nice photo of a Nic-A-Date coin so I can see what it looks like? Thanks Speedy
I spent all of mine (during the same time period) on candy and school lunches. OK......I'll go cry now. I was trying to forget this sad time in my life LOL!!!!
It was suggested that nic-a-date might have been used on this half dime. The scan isn't the best, but I can tell in person that it looks ugly near the date. The finish is gone and it looks rough like it was soaked in acid. If needed, I can take a better close-up shot. http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=3983
nesvt Thanks for posting the photo. I don't think I've ever seen a Nic-A-Date coin up close. Thanks One question--since the name is Nic-A-Date I always thought it was from Nickels and nothing else but since that was a dime will it work on most anything? Thanks Speedy
