You are getting a truly memorable visit. You should still get all water damageable items off the floor. That canal behind your house........worries me. You should also have a safe spot in the house already picked out. You might want to have the cushions off a couch or something already in that safe spot. Move all your supplies to that safe spot. There are many small things you can do now, to minimize ANY possible risk. Right now it is all about reducing risk. If a window blows in, or the roof comes off, you need to be on auto-pilot.

    Good luck.

Oh yes, charge all your devices now and stop using them. Think of them as water canteens in a desert.

btw I have seen recent pictures from ST Thomas in the USVI, a place my wife and I visted last summer. TIF is in the middle of a disaster of unimagined proportions. The safest place on the island is possibly that hospital. The islands are dangerous after disasters. The criminal element emerges quickly.

Its good news for us in Miami Lakes (20 miles north of Miami and 9 miles inland), unless the storm veers further east at the last munute, the worse we should feel is around 100 miles per hour winds. At any rate, Im also signing off. Stay safe.

Good luck Bing, Aidan, Sallent, Edouard, Ancientcoinguru and all others in the path. I am in Kissimmee where we will get a good whack from winds and a lot of rain. We should all meet up after this is over.

Its already grey and pretty windy here in Broward County. I'm not as worried now that its more to the west (sorry @Bing , @Aidan_() , @Eduard , and others), but its still going to be a tough few days. Interesting to see a good number of people out and about yesterday evening just doing things like walking and having fun, most likely realizing it was the last night of freedom before the storm. I held off getting gas until yesterday because I didn't want to risk further using my quarter-tank I had left and I didn't want to wait hours in line. Fortunately there was one gas station left near me and the wait was only half hour. So glad because I frequently drive to college and I have no idea when the gas stations would become operational again (maybe a week? Can't remember how it was after the last major hurricane seeing as I was not old enough to drive then).

Hang in there everybody, stay safe!

Good luck everyone, and please check in whenever you can (but 4to2centBC is correct in that you should conserve power in your devices as much as possible).

In Ohio, all we have to worry about are tornadoes and Ohio State fans when it comes to life and property threatening natural disasters. So, it's hard to understand what you're going through.

We're all hoping for the best.

    Take care of yourselves!

Weather is deteriorating. I've measured gusts up to 40 miles an hour and rain is now constant. However, all in all this is not a bad place to be. Naples will get it bad, we won't get it that bad as we first feared.

Not sure. Either way, I'm staying put. Better than running out of gas on the highway. The thing shifted anyway, so I doubt we will see anything too bad. Just a lot of wind and rain, but hurricane force winds might stay to our west if we are lucky. I don't expect winds worse than 70 or 75 MPH worse case scenario. We can handle that just fine.

Naples though, that may be another story.

I do have family in Cuba where the storm hit hardest though. I heard an hour ago from family members that they were in the second floor of their house as 5 feet of water came in. They had 125 MPH winds, it's a miracle we were able to get any communication whatsoever.
