Go to the nearest shelter well before the storm if you end up in its path and you live near the coast.

It may weaken before getting to Tampa.

    Fingers crossed.

Remember too that the exact track is hard to predict and the storm is big enough that all of Florida is likely to be hit.

Thanks. I've had a lot of well wishers, hoping and praying for the best. The last update brings the storm over near Naples and straight up the west coast of Florida. If it goes further west, my home may really be in jeopardy from the storm surge that will follow. My house sits 1.25 miles from Tampa Bay with a lagoon and canals in between. I think we are planning on leaving tomorrow to find a shelter inland from here. I wish now we would have decided earlier in the week to go North to visit my son in DC area.

I've got a stake in Polk County. Hope all is well there, as I haven't (yet) heard from anyone. I guess I'm gonna have to make a few calls........

My family lives in Englewood (between Tampa and Naples) right on the Coast. Daughter from Lake Okechobee went there to shelter with them. They retired and are cooks for the local school, which will be a Hurricane Shelter. They will be cooking for anyone going to that Shelter.

Last news is it is coming straight at us in Bonita Springs. Mandatory evacuations for areas located 3 miles from our house, west of I-75. I hope will not extend to us as we are east of I-75.

Everything is as ready as we could reasonably expect. Just wish we had a bit more of everything - water, food, flashlights. Was just out hoping to meet some neighbors this morning and was relieved to see at least 10 families on our street are still here.
Everybody was of the opinion it is better to stay-put in our homes, rather than going to one of the established shelters. As long as we are outside the mandatory, that is also my opinion.

You can already feel the wind picking-up......

Hang in there @Eduard . By now I assume you have everything that you can fill with water filled and your important stuff (coins and books) placed high and in plastic (garbage bags work). Best wishes and prayers to you and the state of Florida.
