I think this series is dead! I ordered some yesterday, and the re-sale prices on eBay haven't appreciated nearly fast enough for me. And have you seen the manganese and nickel prices? Declining since September! These coins won't even be worth melt by Christmas.

I always get one set and break it up. Don't care about the packaging. one way or another, but this year is nice. There's going to be some very different packaging in '09 and '10.

I think the packaging for these mint sets is a huge improvement over previous mint set packaging. I'm buying sets for the first time. It's not only because of the packaging (also because of the size of the sets and the satin finish on the dollar coins) but it was a factor. They'll be easier to view, display and store.

i was planning on just buying 1 to break open to put in albums and such, but with how nice the packaging is I'm very tempted to buy a second just to keep and display.

Well I've got a year to consider it.

    no silver

not even gold on it. but some of the current coins look good. some might even go higher than silver. but this set, i doubt it. it is only if i like it. then i will buy a lot.

    Damaged Packaging

I got my 2 sets today and one was crushed and cracked open on the lower left edge where the Montana Quarter could be force out and exchanged. Obviously, they are more exposed to the elements than an intact set.
Can I just put on the US Mint return label and hand it over to DHL (the carrier) without paying for the return postage? Or do I have to pay return postage and ins, etc.? Could I just drop it in a DHL drop-box if they have them?
What is the easiest and cheapest route to go here?

I called the Mint and described the situation. He suggested that I send BOTH sets back and ask fo replacement. I told him I had sent 1 out of 5 Pres Proof sets back and receive 1 in return. He still thought it would be best to send the 2 sets back. I ended up sending the 1 set back and asking for a replacement. I'll go to the USPS tomorrow morn and pay the postage with deliv. conf. I'm not going to insure a $20 item I'm shipping to the US Mint. Just sending this set back is costing $4 for something that wasn't my mistake. The Gov't or DHL should pay for their own errors. But on a $20 item? What are you gonna do? I want 2 sets and NOW I'm paying for them.

Received my sets all in great condition. The new packaging is nice but I wish they had inserted the holders in envelopes like the old sets which better fit my storage system. I haven't tried it yet but I bet the new holders don't fit into the current mint set storage boxes.
