That's just crazy. Who would pay that much?

:confused:Someone will have to explain that to me----it is just bullion, isn't it?

Bars, as with coins, can be collectible. It's JM and I can only assume one scarce and/or somehow in demand...

Yeah, I thought someone here would know that this was rare and worth $400...

Well, yes, I would think that paying that much for one ounce of generic silver is very rare.

Is it really worth $400, or are you outing my apparent gullibility? ;)

I shudder to think of what I let go at spot over the years....

Sorry, I stated that kind of wrongly...I don't think any of these are worth much more than $20 or so

On a personal level I agree (I feel the same about a vast majority of coins as well), but being as I don't make the rules, it's easiest to just go with the flow. One man's trash, I suppose...

Some JM bars can go for BIG premiums. This seems to be one of them.

Hm. Since someone has now bid $81.00 on this ingot, it appears that, at least for the duration of this auction, that it is indeed worth that much. It might go even higher.

Whether it will be worth that much after this auction or in future auctions remains to be seen. This is really the sticky part of value.

I always find it funny when coin collectors think it's crazy to buy some items for more then melt. lol
If anyone should understand it should be them.

How many times have we all been told "you paid XXX for a Silver Dollar? Aren't they less then an ounce of silver" lol

    Yea I guess I do :p
It's basically that I agree that it seems like too much of a premium for me.
But I don't like to question if someone wants to pay what I think is "too much" for something.
Our hobby is plagued by all of us poo poo'ing other peoples purchase.
We should let everyone buy what they want if they enjoy it and not keep thinking we know what everything is worth.

Imagine if all the lady's did that with Coach Purses. It would drive down the prices and make everyone feel bad about buying their overpriced leather (to me that is) :D

I doubt that anyone has ANY item in their collection that's worth LESS than melt.

Anyway, those silver bars look like lead. Maybe they're the special issue lead plated silver.

EDIT: actually any common, face-value pennies you might have contain almost 2 cents in copper but their worth is 1 cent.

Maybe it's the Friday night bourbon, but I dont get why 1oz of silver is worth so much....

Then again, I have paid more than that for some little pieces of copper with a president on them... maybe I just answered my own question.

There's actually a pretty strong collectable market for certain silver bars.
