They are creating? I'd say they've done a pretty good job and we're nearing the end of the line for the term 'First Strike.' Guess we'll just have to wait and see what gimmick TPG's come up with next to support their bottom line. IMO, I have no problems with 'First Strike.' I don't care if a coin is labeled first strike, as long as I won't have to pay a premium above a non - 'First Strike'. As for selling, hey, can't more fancy labels and designations on the slab mean the coin's worth more ( said tongue-in-cheek )?
Yes, they charge an extra $10 to put the First Strike on the label. So the get a greatly increased number of submissions, and $24 dollars apiece instead of the $14 fee for moderns.
ALERT....ALERT.....ALERT.... I was watching the coin country this morning(I recorded the thing and then fast forward throught all but a litte) anyhow they are pre selling silver eagles for 2007. Have a very special connection and can get you a monster box of 500 silver eagles for 12k . guaranteed to be "first strikes" . got papers with it and a securtiy strap around it. oh they also will have 69 grade silver eagle for $50. but you need to order soon. yea right it kind of looks like they were selling some of them but who knows. Who in the world would want 500 silver eagles at one time other than dealers who know they can get them for thousands less than from the televison. Heck it still suprises me how many people buy from these coins tv shows when they can order from the mint looks like not only do they pre sale coins but are pre selling first strikes. should be an interesting year about the First Strike Issue
thought i would let everyone know what i saw on the coin country tv show today while i kind of relaxing. They were selling the above mentioned monster boxes of silver eagles 500 coins at 12k. anyhow theyaid would have paperwork and related That Ngc may not be useing first Stike designation this year and may use the term "orginal" or "early Strikes" or even "First strikes" or whatever they decide to call it but you will have the paper to prove you have these" what ever these things will be called. . This was just soooo funny to me .
I thought that the whole "You have to send in your SAE sets sight unseen and pay extra for a special label on the slab." was their next gimmick?
They did do real first strikes at one time. I went to the first strike for the ASE at the SF Mint in 86, I still have all the mint handouts and documents from the occasion. I do have scans of the entire package but it would take up a lot of room here. these are just a couple of pages from the Media handout.
