If you didn't mind that your coins toned, at what point in the process would you try and stop it? Or can you?

    Another question.
Why do some coins tone noticeably faster than others, even though they are all exposed to the same conditions? 20170906_184429.jpg 20170906_184610.jpg

Those look to be nicely toned and I wouldn't do anything to them. How quickly did this toning appear? If it was rather quickly, you may need to choose another place to store them.

As far as why do some coins tone while others don't, there are a million reasons. But if they are stored in the same environment and some tone while others don't, it likely has something to do with the surface of the coins on the molecular level. Think about how Morgan dollars tone compared to peace dollars. Toned Morgan dollars are a dime a dozen while a nicely toned peace dollar is highly prized as they just do t really tone that often.

If I had to guess, a couple of years. They were in the bottom of an old antique desk drawer. Been away for work a quite a while now and while at home over the Holiday, dug out some coins to bring back with me to play around with. I have been working on completing the uncirculated quarter set including proofs for quite a while but had stopped for awhile. I only lack a few and thought that I would enjoy trying to finish it while away. I can't take good photos but some of these coins are far prettier than I remembered.

Whenever it got to vibrant rainbow colors. Changing how they are stored can often basically stop it especially if something like an album is likely the source of it. Scientifically I don't know why some tone and others don't, but practically speaking they just do and some even do so rather quickly while others seem like they never will.

Are there any conditions you could put it under (non chemically) to speed it up?

    Thanks,

No, because it's a chemical reaction. And "speeding it up" would likely result in an unnatural look.

Those are two very_nice Quarters, and I'd be slapping them into Airtites just as they are. :)

Wow - nice looking coins. It is weird some are toning and others not. We're the toned coins perhaps put in the holder earlier than the others? Or transferred from another holder where they would have received the toning?

Most were put in there about the same time and had no toning on them, at least none visible. I added some older coins but they show no signs of toning yet. This album has from 1950 to 1999 in it. Two or 3 of the 60's have begun to tone, maybe the same through the 70's and 80's but several of the 90's. The 50's were the last to be put in the album but if they have toned any, I can't tell. I actually brought the wrong album, because I thought that I was getting the one with the earlier coins in it. I did get the box I had of earlier coins I hadn't put in the album yet. Anyway I have enjoyed looking at these.
