Stay safe fellows. I've got interests and relatives in Florida. They, as well as all of you, are in my thoughts and prayers this evening..........

Didn't know you were on the coast Theodosius. Always thought you were in the panhandle area (I might be confusing you with another Floridian CT'er, maybe ancientcoinguru or Aidan).

This freakin' storm is so big that (if the models prevail) it's gonna effect (affect?) both coasts.

Here's Irma compared to Andrew. Irma's the larger of the two.

Man, what a day. Much to report, some of it good news :).

My condo complex sustained massive damage but my building was relatively spared and appears is structurally intact. The main balcony shutters ripped open yet the windows held. There was considerable water intrusion of course. If you've never seen sliding glass doors or other large windows in very high winds, you might be surprised to see that they are capable of bowing to seemingly impossible degrees without breaking. That creates large gaps though and water comes in. Not everything is soaked or ruined yet. I'm hoping to be able to get some help and salvage things. Before the hurricane I put my coin books into plastic bins but I didn't check those. It was not very bright (gray clouds, late afternoon) when I checked and I didn't spend much time there other than to see the overall status. I hope my coin books aren't soaked.

I had stashed my coins (and a suitcase of clothes, one guitar, etc) at another location and that person's house appears intact although he didn't go in to the concrete bunker. There may have been considerable water intrusion but unless it was accompanied by wind (and it probably wasn't), my coins should be okay (PHEW!!)

The state of infrastructure is dismal. Power lines are down everywhere. Roads damaged, rock slides, etc. Driving to my condo and to other locales (trying to locate unaccounted for people) was like some scene from a movie except instead of the person dodging laser beams, we were navigating spiderwebs of downed power lines.
As 4to2ndCent said, the Navy had ships somewhat close by and ready to dispatch in case of need. I've heard that the hospital ship will arrive tomorrow. The helicopters have been flying supplies in and people out constantly throughout the day. Airport not yet usable, per fourth-hand reports.

Tired. Have to return some messages and mail and sleep.

Not been posting much recently, but I have been watching this thread. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this awful weather. With Jose on Irma's heels it will be a while before it is over. Keep safe everyone, take no risks.

I hope people will be able to post here to let us know how you are. And to keep it legal, here is a beast coin.....

I lived through Betsy and Camille. If you want to see a wacky path, look at the one Betsy took!

    Best to all!

It's looking worse for the Tampa Bay area. We decided to stay when we thought the storm was heading more Eastward, but that may turn out to be a mistake. There are no more flights available out of TPA, and the roads are full of people evacuating from further South. We're unsure of what to do at this point. Perhaps go to a shelter tomorrow or early Sunday. Pray for all of us in this storms path.

Wow. My daughter has a Tiny House near Lake Okeechobee. They went to their Aunt's in-between the Naples to Tampa area to hunker down. Cripes. Thank you for the update.

Thinking of you and your Honey, @Bing ! Hope all is safe.
