How do I store my ancient coins..... for a hurricane?

Very glad TIF made it safely!

I took some pictures of our house with shutters installed, for insurance purposes -
I hope they will not be needed!

Had some luck and found bottled water at Publix, some more candles and flashlights at another store. To keep my wife happy, the gas tank is full again ($ 5 per gallon!!).
Just need a battery-powered radio now to keep ahead of news in case of power loss and the internet goes. We do not have a land-line/no phone at the house.

I plan to take my wife out to dinner tonight in advance celebration of our wedding anniversary - she will like that, and I do not want to deny her that.
I just hope restaurants are still open in the area.

This is great info as many don't know that if you prove you at least tried to secure your home, the insurance company cannot deny your claim. I would suggest also
making sure you have a good registry of your coins.

We are in FL too. Best of luck. Don't forget about elderly neighbors.

Might try multiple Zip Loc bags stored in the dishwasher?
It's waterproof and pretty well secured to the structure.

 

We are about 10 miles from the beach and approximately 9-10 feet above sea level.
I would say that is far enough, and high enough. However, we had some really heavy rains in the area about one week ago and the canal in front of our house got to within 1-1,5 ft (level-wise) from the level of our house. That has me a little worried if it rains really heavily.

Thank you, kkathyl0! For insurance purposes, I think it is important to have proof you did what you could to protect your home. Luckily, my coins are in a SDB about 10000 miles away from here (I wish we were there too).

Regarding our neighbors - some of them are elderly, and my wife, to her credit, actually had the strength to go out and help out two of them to install their storm shutters - in the middle of the day, in full sunshine and with 96F heat!

I keep mine close and created an insulated closet so the moisture/humidity stays out. Might have to consider the dishwasher but I am on a 2nd floor so I think I will be ok. I don't think I have enough room in my dishwasher

 

Helped my dad put some up on the house last year and putting shutters up easily was one of the most annoying parts of getting prepared. Now we have high-impact windows (glad since its no shutters to put up and thus less work for my dad who's getting older).

 

My thoughts are with you, as little as they are worth. I wish I was there to help. I can't imagine the plight of the patients and staff.

Please post when you learn if the airports are open. That will be the quickest lifeline for supplies.

PM me if things go awry. I will help if possible. You may find supplies difficult to come by in the months to come.

I can hear the waves in the Atlantic from my house in Florida most days so needless to say i had to evacuate. I just made it to Kissimmee to weather the storm. People are driving and acting crazy already. Glad to be at 75 feet above sea level.
