Kinda cool set. I'm debating whether I want one of not. Of course if it sells out in 6 minutes, I doubt I'll get a set even in the aftermarket.
Keep in mind, folks, that these are medals, not coins! I don't think people will be going bananas for them in the secondary market. The single medal is priced at $59.95, but there is no mention of the price for the 4-medal set. Chris
I don't know what/if they'll limit these to, but the price that they'll charge is my concern. They charged $60 for the first one. How much will they charge for four, with special finishes??? Are we looking at $240 or more??? Could be...??? I passed on the earlier release, due to price. I do want a set, but not that bad.
It doesn't matter much to me if these have a denomination or not. The price is what bothers me. How they can charge more for these than a proof ASE is ridiculous IMO. I want to continue collecting these, as I think last year's medal was awesome. But not at these prices. I'll no doubt just get the single, eventually, if this set is priced similarly to the single they released earlier this year. Which I am quite certain they will be.
I get it... act like you're not interested, and it may help your chances of owning a couple sets. I'll tell no one. (wink, wink)
Thanks for the heads up John. I'll be in for one set. Off hand, does anybody know what last years medal goes for in the aftermarket? Edit: Never mind. I just checked ebay.
Since I'm almost certain the mintage will be unlimited or way too high and the medals will be priced way too high also, pass for me.
While I love how they have brought back Lady Liberty as a theme, I collect coins not medals. The mint, with their experience, should know they shoudl strive to strike coins if they want the premiums they are demanding for these. Now we just need to get the dead presidents off the coins and make all circulating coins show Lady Liberty, whatever her ethnicity. Heck, make a different depiction and ethnicity/age/etc. of her for each denomination, that would be cool. One native, one hispanic, one caucasian, and one african American.
These will be an easy pass for me. I don't see a price under $200 for that set and likely more like $250 if not more. The gold and silver one already out have big a massive dud already too. Have to say the mint really should have never started hyping up the 225th stuff, they have tanked this year so hard with their offerings
I was warming up to the design little by little, but for $200 I'm cooled back down. I still think the eagle looks like it's shedding mites on the reverse of the medals with all of the initials/mintmark.
