I need some money for college, so I am altering my search algorithm to expand into more coins. You have more competition, my friend.
So, I finally found a couple commemoratives for my free set. I paid $10 each. The Columbian is semi prooflike! These two "free coins" came as a result of selling this little lot, also gave me my Peace Dollar and funded my MS 1884-O/O Morgan slot. Here's the lot I bought and flipped, followed by the two commemoratives for my free set.
I had the chance to buy a fully-prooflike 1892 Columbian for $30, but I was stupid enough to pass. It was many years ago, and I have since learned my lesson.
It's starting to get slow-going on this set. But I picked this up for $119 on eBay and sold it for $192. I used the profits to buy a nice AU 1852 that I won at auction for $69. Below is the one I flipped for profit, followed by my "free" one.
Alrighty. I flipped this 1913 type 1 for a $12 profit and nabbed this still-lustrous AU one for $8. It's spotted, but still fits nicely into my free set. Below is the pic of the one I flipped, followed by my free one.
I successfully flipped a $5 lib today for a $3.75 profit after ebay and PayPal fees. Only took me like 3 months to sell too lol Just have to do that another 100 or so times to get my free $5 lib
I have been wondering how the heck I'm going to get an XF Classic Head Large Cent. Even with micro porosity one would cost me $500+.
Been a while, but I added a few to my free set. Here's one. I bought a set of half dimes and nickels for $75 and sold all but the shield nickel for a profit, so I kept this one for my free set!
I bought this other Dansco 7070 set on eBay for $214 and it had some gems hidden in the bad pics. I kept this one after selling enough of the other coins to make a profit. Here's the pic of the collection and the free Nickel for my set.
I bought this one for $35 and sold it for $67. Used the profits to buy this large cent for my free set! Below is the pic of the coin I sold for a profit, followed by the freebie. I like the one I flipped better, but I was having trouble making money on braided hair cents, so I feel lucky to have finally filled the slot.
Been awhile since I updated this project, but I have made a few recent purchases. I've upgraded and even downgraded one or two. But with almost no exceptions, I still have a XF-BU set. My biggest additions are the bust half and the trade dollar. I took pics of everything, but didn't put much effort into the last page. Here ya go:
I like your bust half. I just bought a nice XF 1820 large cent for my set. Now that I have the easier (cheaper) slots filled it will take some time to finish the album.
That bust half was $130! Not too shabby for an AU50/53! But "free" since I made a nice profit on another bustie! I know exactly what you mean. It's slow going. The only "cheap" coins I have left to fill are difficult to fill because the profit margins are generally low. I feel like I can finish the seated half dimes and seated dimes with ease, and a Coronet Cent, but the others are pretty tough. Still, to have a Trade Dollar was a big accomplishment for this set. I tried my hand at a seated dollar, but only made $20 profit.
I I would gladly pay $130 for that bust half. I recently finished my half dimes with an 1853 with arrows. My dollars are complete with the exception of the trade dollar. I hope I can complete the album by the end of next year.
Part of what Im also trying to do with my free set is to also acquire coins that are a great deal thenselves. So that when and if the time comes to sell it, they all bring more profit. The flying eagle cent was $65. The Seated Half Dime was $15. Feels good to know that even my "free" coins were steals.
