Well I think I can officially say I am no longer an amateur coin collector, but a I-sort-of-know-what-I'm-doing collector. I just made a $200 order through jakesmp.com, got an MS-64 1921 morgan, an MS-63 1922 Peace dollar, the Dansco US type set from 1800 to present album, the dansco prez dollar P, D, and proof album, and the 1999 and 2000 mint sets. Did I get a decent deal on the morgan and peace? (the morgan was $51 and the peace was $36) I am going for the highest affordable grades in the least important years for my type set.
I would say that the price on the Morgan was reasonable for a true MS-64. The price on the Peace Dollar is a little bit high, but not too bad. You could probably find the MS-63 Peace Dollar for retail in the mid to upper 20 dollar range somewhere.
For my own benefit could you point me to an online store or seller with prices like what you're describing? I did a decent amount of research before concluding this was about as good as I was going to find (outside of ebay, but I'm quite ready to start trusting ebay sellers.) So please show me where the better dealer is to buy from so I don't over pay again.
no they weren't slabbed (as far as I know) but the dealer seems to be really reputable, and although I haven't seen pictures of the peace dollar, the morgan photos are ONLINE
Since they were not slabbed, I would think that the prices are rather high, esp since tey are very common dates.
I have to agree with Frank. $51 is OK for a REALLY nice, PQ ++, certified MS64, but it's pretty high for a raw common date. Same comments on the Peace dollar. v/r Dan
well as long as the coins I get are indeed the grades advertised I will be happy. Next time I'll just make sure to spam you guys with posts asking for the best place to buy from
Check out www.vtcoins.com for some good deals. Ebay isn't a bad place to shop and many times you can get coins there cheaper. Speedy
