I have a Denarius of Titus that has dirt in a flan flaw. I have managed to soak (DM water)/brush/pick/clean most of it out and I am looking for some help as to how I can get the remainder out, please? Any thoughts, anyone? Before After
@Mat I was going to leave it, but it looked like a 'fourree', and I wanted to reassure myself that it wasn't. (The indent on the cheek had dirt in it, too.)
Please stop! You've ruined that coin for future generations with your amateurish attempts to improve it! Most folks go out of their way to make a rough, and corroded surface of their ancient coin smooth and even. You have taken such a coin and scratched it up leaving a large ugly crater. Is that the same as "backward engineering?" Next time, do a specific gravity test!
I would have originally left it alone. Encrustations like that and 'greenies' don't bother me one bit.
