I had graded this AU-58, and I have an offer of $125 for it on eBay (I have $43 in it). I was about to accept it, but I was wondering if I was making a mistake by not sending it in to PCGS (Like I did with a bunch of MS 1892 O Morgans that I sold as AU).
AU-58 sounds about right . Tail feathers are lightly struck on the eagle . The feathers on the arrows, look lightly struck too ..
The way I see it, if it costs me $30 to send it in (on average after shipping and stuff), I'm down to $135. $10 is not enough for me to tie up that much money.
Agree about the strike on the reverse, and there are some scratches on the obverse. Retained some nice original mint luster. AU55/58 seems right.
I'm not sure about those 3 dark spots on the obv, that might preclude a straight grade. I would be inclined to accept the offer.
Good move, I agree. Squeezing every last cent out of a coin may be best and/or work for some, but quick turnovers along with possibly leaving a little meat for others can pay off even more in the long run. Congrats on a nice return. One thing I would respectfully caution against is openly advertising (as you did here) how much you've into a coin, at least while still available and/or with a sale pending. Even though a long shot, you never know who may be reading this and notice. Unfortunately, too many today seem to think knowing what a seller paid for a coin should automatically translate into a deal for them too; it's just not worth the risk imo, no matter how remote the chances.
