Given that the mintage numbers are about the same for either type (at least I believe they are @ approx. 20,000 each), which one would you rather have and why?
purely a matter of opinion... mine is that the proof looks unbelievable with the stark contrasts between the fields and devices, and therefore to me is no contest. To be fair, my brother the dealer says that he likes the unc better and feels it will outperform the proof pricewise. Knowing my brother and his track record, I am even MORE sure now that the proof is the better investment of the two. lol
I'd rather spend the money on pre-1933 gold. Of the two TJ spouse coins I like the eye appeal of the proof version. From an investment point of view, who knows.
I'm going to keep both of them.....for now. If I absolutely had to part with one I would dump the Unc as I think the proof looks better.
What is interesting about these is that I picked up a few of these to sell, and wife who could care less about coins loves the proof and suggested that I keep a proof liberty because she likes it. I actually kept one. May be the only gold spouse I hang onto.
see what I mean tho??? everyone seems to like the proof better for good old-fashioned eye appeal. I think it's going to be the more desirable coin of the two.
It might have been nicer if they actually had TJ's spouse instead of the famous DC madame...or better yet, TJ's daughter, who was the official White House Hostess. (the lady on the 1804 silver dollar ran a cat house catering to high government officials. The Liberty Cap cents was the sculptor's wife, who knew who she was and dissaproved)
These are time honored American coins! I'll go for the Uncirc. Proofs are nice to llok at but can be gaudy. eg the Jamestown Uncirc is a much prettier coin than the Pr.
tj spouse gold t j spouse unc gold can not sell out. because of its ugliest reverse design. yes, the obverse is one of the best design for spouse series.
Proof. It such a classy coin. I got 2 of each hoping to sell a pair quickly but decided to hold on to them.
