Found my second star note ever today! It's a 1.00 1995. I 13184670 . My first one was nothing special but i think this one may be better. If i am using this web site ( http://www.aero-phoenix.com/mcc/reference/stars/ ) correctly , it's saying there were 640,000 printed. Sweet!
Nice find! I don't really keep star notes anymore, I think I found about 30 or so from circ, wasn't worht it to keep them. But that one sounds rare, nice find! :thumb: Phoenix
Congrats for your second star! I've found 3 in normal circulation so far (I rarely buy bills from the bank to search), but you seem to be finding them at a much faster rate than I did. Personally, I think you should keep every one you can get your hands on for face (unless, of course, it's a $100 or one that's too high). If you let it go, it'll circulate for a year or two maybe, and then get sent back to the fed, and that poor little star note will get destroyed. Besides, eventually even the common star notes will be uncommon, in my opinion. Why? Well, a lot of collectors that find them do a search and find out they're worth just $1. They spend the star, it gets destroyed. What was once common, is now rare. It has been played out dozens of times in the numismatic world. What I always say to anyone who tells me to spend my star notes is: "Don't forget, over 400,000 1933 double eagles were minted". You know, it's a bit of a habit for me to ramble whenever I respond to someone's thread! Sorry 'bout that, tommy!
i too spend common star notes. even the old silver certificates gets only a 1 or 2 dollar increase for being a star. i keep all the "rare" ones, and spend the rest unless its a 1999 or older or has a cool serial number. you made a pretty nice find finding a 1995 rare! i'd keep that for sure!
If I lived in the US I would save any I found & the common ones sell on Ebay to people like me who dont have the chance of finding them in circulation Dont forget guy's what is common to you might not be so common outside of the US
Everyone makes a good point! It is hard enough for me to save money, this hobby makes it a bit easier. everytime I purchase a expensive coin I have to keep telling myself " don't worry Tom, you are not spending money here, you are just "saving" it" . Or maybe that's just an excuse to buy.
