Yeah, you read that right, but it's only part of the story. Apparently the Mint sold only 5,966 of the 2016 Congratulations Sets, and coins certified with the "Congratulations Set" designation now have very high prices. Obviously the coin hasn't sold so the seller may not get their asking price, but still. I don't think anyone's posted about this yet; please discuss. Also, if any of you happened to buy a 2016 Congratulations Set, it's probably worth a lot more now than when you bought it!! http://m.ebay.com/itm/2016-Congratu...%3A4311967915e0a8666a664061fff717b7%7Ciid%3A5
I think it's crazy, but clearly there is a market for this sort of thing. Prime example of buying the label, not the coin.... in my amateurish opinion.
Same seller has another PF70 without the First Day of Issue for $3,200. So, he thinks that designation is worth $2,200. Me thinks he's nuts.
ONG WHY are the 2016s selling for so much? I have most of the years. I think I'll put mine up for sale for crazy money.
Cus the 2017s got people interested in the series and basically none of the 16s had sold when they were pulled. I'd sell them right now if you can.
Now I have to rummage through the shipping boxes as I think I bought it first day available. The stupid empty box might add to it's value ?!?!
Yup. selling them before people find sanity again. This will go to pay for the 2009 high relief double gold eagle, which in a few instances seems to have lowered in price even with gold going up.
I have a 2016-W PF69UCAM but doesn't say "Congratulations Set" is it not worth anything then? edit: never mind searched for it and got my answer so people are paying the huge premium just because the coin came in a Congrats set that had low mintage? Not gonna judge how people want to spend their money but ASE's are too funny to me
I missed selling my 2006 ?? Silver Proof Sets for insane money. I'm not going to miss this. I'll just buy them back a few years from now.
I think only the "Congratulations Set" are going for stupid money. The regular Proof OGP box is selling for $47 when I just checked. Yes, it appears that they are paying $1900+ for the cardboard.
