buying proof coins individually or taking from sets

I was looking over prices for 1973 clad proof Eisenhower dollars, and from a particular seller I like the individual coin is $14.95, but the 1973 proof set that includes the coin is only $10.50.

Is there any logical reason why I shouldn't buy the 1973 set and just break it open for the coin?

No. If you hand pick a set you just might find a really nice coin, too.

Opening the sets is easy but wear safety glasses.

 

Maybe depending on the grade of the IKE. But it often happens that the set is less expensive than individual examples. I'm found of the Ikes.

i don't do that

i just collect proof set. i don't take any coin out. it might damage the coin. if i like a roll of that kind. i just buy 40 set or 50 set.

 

If you brake apart proof sets be sure that you wear white gloves and a face mask, this will help to protect the coins.

 

the proof dollar in the set may be a lesser grade then the one being sold separate
I now have over 300 silver Ikes and about 100 of the clad some in the sets are better and some of the singles are better
