It's only worth it's weight in gold, which is likely to be extremely little because gold is so malleable/ductile. I'd say maybe .50 cents if you're lucky as a single oz of gold can be drawn into 80 kilometers (50 miles) of thin gold wire, five microns, or five millionths of a meter think for example.

That being said because it looks like these are available all over certain sites of ill repute I'd bet it probably isn't actually gold to begin with in which case it really has no value.

If it is gold, there is so little of it that it's value is zero.
Are you willing to tell us how much you paid?

These have been around for a very long time. A T.V. Hawker's dream and also privately made by places like the Danbury Mint, Grollier's and many others. It's onion paper thin and is really gold but of very little value. These were also combined many times with first day of issue stamps and are known as PNC's. (Philatelic/Numismatic Covers). I recently purchased a lot of 80 with the gold foil stamps for less than $20.00 on cover, with first day cancelled stamps. Hope you did not pay a lot for it. ( I do have an outlet for mine so I'm good with some profit)

If it is a real banknote then surely such defacement would severely reduce its value. I certainly would not be interested in buying it, even if I collected currency.

Yikes John! I hope you stay away from these in the future. This is not a good lesson to learn by, but I hope you have.

1928 was the 1st year they issued currency as small bills and 1928 was the last year they made gold certificates cause the great depression the president made it illegal to have one and confiscated them.

It doesn't look real to me. If it was a real banknote, how do you explain the fact that you paid $16 for it? If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

No offense intended, but we get hundreds of people coming here thinking they have just made a big score, but have no idea what it is that they bought.

I have to question whether that's a real bank note. I don't think so.

Sorry John but it is not a real banknote and is not spendable anywhere. The COA only states that it is authentic for what it is, a novelty item. In fact, I be willing to bet if you did try to spend it, you would be getting a visit from the State Police and FBI.

Hi John, yes, but those 1928 billswere made by the government and printed on currency paper with a real serial number. These are said to be made of gold foil "pressed into plastic" so they may not be removeable without tearing from the inside of the holder. If its worth the money for you as a curiosity piece and a conversation starter, thats good and many people collect other non-real fantasy stuff on here and as long as they are happy, that's well also. There are very few who wouldn't say they have done something like this before, and many of those would be a liar. Jim

Not a good reply. You have 5 posts, all in this thread, and you are already accusing people who have been collecting numismatic items for up to 50 years of not knowing what they are talking about.

    Sorry, but no.
I've been handling paper money for more than twice as long as you've been on this earth. You certainly will not be teaching me what's real and not real.
