I have been searching high and low to find an album to display the 5 oz silver ATB coins. I the only album that I could find is produced by Book of Silver. The album looks sharp, but you can only see one side of the coin. I guess that not a big deal, but it would be nice to view both sides of the coin by flipping a page rather than having to pull out the coin from the album. I have Lighthouse albums to hold slabs and the are large enough to accommodate for the large diameter 5 oz ATBs, but I have not seen pages for them. Any ideas to improvise making pages?
It probably wouldn't be cost effective for any company to make such an album. I'm not sure what the actual diameter of the hockey pucks is, but I'd be surprised if you could get more than two per page. I don't see any page being made strong enough to hold more than 10 ozs. Chris
Thanks Chris for your reply. Since Dansco doesn't produce albums for the 5 oz ATBs, I thought it was a matter of the coin diameter (76.20 mm or 3 inches), not the mass. However, Lighthouse binder can accommodate for the 3 in diameter. In theory, a Lighthouse album can hold six pages and each page can hold twenty 1 oz coins. That's a total of 120 oz or 8.2 pounds. In practice, I am not sure if a Lighthouse album can withstand 8.2 pounds without it falling apart. In any case, it's not worth the hassle. The portrait on the obverse side of the 5 oz ATB coins has been in circulation since 1932. If obverse design was something entirely new, then I would more concerned.
