If I have some silver bullion that I'd like to get gold-plated, where would one go to get that done? How much would it cost? I guess it would have to be a local shop (jewelry?) because I can't imagine that mailing it anywhere would be cost-effective. The target items are not worth any more than melt; it would just be for aesthetic value and for fun.
I cannot answer your question, but neither can I imagine why you would want to do it. The melt value is decreased because it take more to separate the gold than it is worth.
It neither adds or subtracts from what I've seen. My dealer will pay the same for a plated Eagle, as he would a clean one. Spot +$1. Face for plated quarters.
You could do it at home pretty easily with common household products. There's more than a few YouTube videos showing how to do it.
You might try a regular jeweler, not a mall type, as sometimes they may have to re-plate some gold plated items, and they can do it safely.
There is no way anyone in here would know what it would cost...You will simply have to ask the person doing the plating
I've been looking for the same thing. Even found a metal plating company, but they wouldn't do it, first saying they won't do coins (I want a copper round plated for a display), then saying they aren't interested in doing it once they understood it wasn't a coin. I've tried asking all the local jewelers and coin shops, and none had a clue where I could go.
Thanks @ldhair. In the "Similar items", there are even cheaper options, but obviously wouldn't be good for someone wanting to do a lot of this (which I don't).
You need an independent jeweler, not one of the chain outlets. The chain and mall outlets just buy wholesale and sell retail. Look up "custom made jewelry" or "custom jewelry makers".
Why would you want to bother doing this, unless you plan on selling them to suckers which is also wrong.
