Thanks everyone. I've been wanting one of these just about ever since I started collecting Ancients, and that's a long time. Many more needed to complete the set, but, this one is special to me.

That's a wonderful addition to your collection.:hungry: I love the significance of each one you post..... :woot::woot:

I'm startled by just how many varieties of the 'type' there are beyond mere Legionary numbers.:jawdrop: If you are focusing on any specific remaining example(s), PM me and I'll keep an eye out for you:)

JW, what an awesome capture! I know this was a focal target, and you GOT IT! I was gobsmacked in my original posts about it. Congrats. Yours is one of my targets that I really want, and I am very happy for the excellent coin you found. LOL, yeah, virtually ALL of my coins, and many of the more "dear" ones have not been fully disclosed to the Spousal Unit... :) Many times ignorance is Bliss... and both of us are happy! :)

Well, you may be creating a Legacy. I really enjoy your MA collection. I have but a few, but this looks like a really cool area for me to slowly build also. Thank you for the inspiration, and, no, I will not be "competing" with you. :)

BYW, ROMA Numismatics just posted that they have an upcoming auction with several MA's... but WOW, they are higher tier, and big money to open. Fun to look at them. I was thinking which ones that you have vs. what they were offering.

Wow! Bing! This is a fabulous coin! Don't you think it would be great fodder for a special feature article for CT? I would love to know more about it! Even if it is a shortish article. I love your coin!

And your wife is so lucky not to have to stress about what she is getting you for your birthday and whether you will love it or not! You do her a great service. What a great hubby you are! (No...really!)

Congratulations on the coin(s) and the wifie!
    And happy birthday in advance.

Yeah, I took a look at those offered by Roma, but I believe I have an example of all those. Besides, the starting prices are way too high for my pocketbook. I just concluded a deal for two more examples (Leg Lybicae & Leg X) I didn't have, which will bring my sub-collection to 20 examples.
I will do that. It's been said in handbooks that legion numerals goes from PRI to XXXIII, but LEG XXIV to XXX are doubtful. The most extended theory is that these types were altered in antiquity (tooled and re-engraved) to increase the number of legions. Without looking through my collection, I know I need LEG Classicae and Cohort Praetorian. Here are some of the others I will be watching for:
LEG PRI extremely rare, may not be genuine
    LEG IIII rare
    LEG IIX extremely rare
    LEG VIIII scarce
    LEG XIIII scarce
LEG XVII CLASSICAE common but much sought after
    LEG XVIIII very rare
