OK, this took me four months and kept me from buying more Sestertii, but here it is for you to enjoy :)

Amazing! Could you provide general dimensions of your Lego theatre?

Carausius Brother, can you spare a sestertius?

Wow! Was this a Lego "kit" (many of them come like models these days, with assembly intructions), or self designed?

    Yet another fantastic creation!

I was at the Piece of Peace World Heritage exhibition a few days ago. They had a nice Colosseum and a wonderful Acropolis display.

Thanks! I built the theatre in exact 1:100 scale. The model has a diameter of 111 cm and is 33 cm high (without the poles). The original measures 111 meters x 33 meters.
The figures come roughly in 1:45 scale so they look a little big - but in any case I could´t put 10.000 of them in there anyway :)

No, they don´t make kits of ancient buildings. It took me four months of trial and error (and more than 10.000 of the rare tan Lego bricks in various shapes) in order to design a three dimensional round building with nothing but square shaped bricks (no glue used).

Wow, amazing and very impressive! I have a few quick questions if I may. What's your process? What are your checkboxes for choosing one project over another? Do you just work from photographs or do you search for architectural drawings? Do you keep them displayed or do you take them apart for the next project? What's next?!

Ha, sorry lots of questions... but this is very cool and very interesting!

    No problem :)

I chose this project because I wanted to try something big, round, and Roman. The Colosseum has been done before in Lego (much bigger and better also), so I looked for something unique and found it´s direct predecessor, the Theatre of Marcellus, to be a suitable candidate. It didn´t hurt that it only needs half as many bricks because it only consists of a semicircle (The Colosseum was the first Theatre featuring a full circle as far as I know).

I did get architectural drawings for this one and the facade is an exact scale model of the original. On the interior, I put in four ranks as opposed to the three in the original and instead of the stage I added an arena so I can have gladiator and beast fights while there was nothing but comedy and tragedy shown in the real Marcellus Theatre as far as I know.

To the discontent of the lady of the house I have never taken any of my bigger models apart and do store them at home but sometimes they are displayed at shows (I mostly build ships).
