I have come across a 1943 copper penny that was in my father's coins. Should I clean it up? If so, how or with what?
    Thanks

Unless you're well experienced with cleaning coins, cease and desist. Post a picture of your example and maybe we can help you in determining if your example needs a 'rub a dub'. Welcome to the forum........:)

Question: How do you take a (potentially) valuable coin and make it worthless?

    Answer: Clean it

Ok... That's an answer. :) lol
Wasn't really sure, assumed not to clean it, but thought I'd ask. He wasn't really a collector but had a few coins and I obviously don't collect them... but understand this to be a pretty rare/valuable coin.

Not worth 'dusting off'.....steel cent with a tad bit of environmental damage. Good for a collection though. :) How did you come upon it?

Try and see if it sticks to a magnet.

The coin posted in the image attachment in Post #5 is clearly a 1943 steel cent.

You can even see rust on it. Copper doesn't rust.
