Another story to make you cringe

So, as always at the bank, I try to make sure everyone knows I'm interesting in collecting the old/odd stuff. So I asked the casual question of one of the tellers "What's the oldest note you've seen here?". She told me she couldn't recall, but one of the other tellers overheard the question and said she had seen a 1921 note.

I asked if she bought it. Not only did she not buy it, but she folded it up, stuck it in with a strap of $1's and sent it back to the Fed in a bundle. I had all I could not to cry at her story. I told her that if the bundle actually made it to the Fed (as opposed to the Cash Handling Service selling it to another bank), that it was basically a death sentence for a piece of American History.

Based on her description (and given that it was a 1921 date), I'm guessing it was a Large Size Federal Reserve Note.

I pleaded with her that if she ever comes across something unusual again, no matter how bad the condition, that I would buy it, without exception (I can always spend it or cash it in for rolls at another bank if I really don't want it).

    Most likely a 1923 "horseblanket".

If she actually had it she's an idiot. Bet someone has it now though.

We can only hope. If that bundle actually made it to the Federal Reserve, their employees are instructed to destroy it. Don't know if there is a way for a Federal Reserve employee to buy it, or ship it back out.

Not everyone appreciates old Coinlover. Unfortunate but true.
I'm one of those guys that will drive by an old cemetary on vacation and stop it to look at the gravestones to see when they were born and when they died. Sure as hell don't know the people or any of their relatives - just curious about old stuff.

Old is a relative term and unfortunately not everyone sees the history behind the word old.
