    Hi all,
This coin may not be all that pretty but I find it interesting and it's fairly rare... plus the mullet is top-notch.

In 354 (or 353?) Arelatum (Arles) was restored to the name Constantina by Constantius II. This name change resulted in mint marks changing from PARL or SARL (or similar) to PCON or SCON (or similar).

Constantius Gallus was executed in the "winter" (November-December?) of 354.

So... this coin was minted in the narrow timeframe between the name change of Arles to Constantia and Gallus' execution... somewhere between a period of a year or so or a few months perhaps in 354.

I've been trying to hunt down more specific dates for the two events but haven't had much luck yet. Anyone know of sources for more narrow dates? When exactly did Arles change to Constantina and was Gallus executed?

    Ae3 Constantius Gallus
Ob: DN CONSTANTI-VS NOB CAES, bust draped right, bareheaded
R: FEL TEMP - REPARATIO, soldier spearing fallen horseman, D in the field to the left - SCON in exergue
    Arles - 354 - Ferrando 1171 - Ferrando II 1338 (R3) - RIC.217

Feel free to post any other related fallen horseman or any that can be dated to a narrow range.

A cool addition. I can't comment on any sources for the dates but have a few FH from Alres.

Cool coins Randy! That first one is the cousin to my Gallus (Constantius II of the same issue)! I'll be keeping an eye out for one of those.

I really like the Christmas ornament butt on those earlier Arles horses too! I like the 2nd one down as you can see the some good detail on the horseman... especially his great hat!

Here's a Constantius Gallus fallen horseman from the bulk lot I've been working on. It illustrates well the FH4 reverse type in RIC viii, in which the "horseman falls forward on neck of horse."

Nice looking Orange coin @Orange Julius , and a great write-up.

I only have 2 Fallen Horseman coins since I really do not focus on this area.
