Hey Guys, I made a thread recently that involved pictures of my type set, but I wanted to make a thread showing it off to all of you. This set has been 4 years passively in the making. Each coin has a story, and I'll tell you the good parts . In terms of cents, not many stories. Coincidentally, both of the stabbed cents were bought at my first coin show (Whitman Pennsylvania). For nickels (and half dimes of course) I really like my pick up of the seated half dime. It's like AU details because of a large scratch on the back. I got it for (in my opinion) a steal. I believe the V1 Buffalo nickel I won in a contest on this website. Also the war nickel is amazing and I love it. Given to me by a generous member and an all around great guy. My favorite toned coin in my collection.
Not much to tell for dimes. The proof was annoying to photograph and I'm still not satisfied. It was actually a gift from my grandfather who bought it on ebay. Who knows how much he overpaid (or didn't), he is not a collector . Quarters is a cool example of where I vary in taste. I love the look of the blast white Washington quarter (even if it is a pain to photograph), but also the worn look of the barber is amazing. Standing liberty quarters are one of my favorite designs. Halves are cool, big enough to put nice details into the coins. I actually found that beautiful toned clad half coin roll hunting. I do have a blast white one I found as well if I need to switch it according to my taste. Another nice barber. That Morgan I actually won on an instagram contest a while back, but in the next post I'll have my previous one. The peace dollar is an upgrade from a hard lesson on "cleaned coins". I also have an Ike to show off in the next post.
The Ike was a bad amazon purchase and the Morgan was a gift from my uncle. He got a good price because I helped him out a bit . Then the special page. Probably filled this up the quickest (even though it isn't done). The statue of liberty commemorative I actually found coin roll hunting if you would believe it. Stay tuned for my next update, probably won't be for a while though. I don't think a college students budget can fill in many of these holes . Thanks for looking! Jason
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing your progress so far. That's shaping up to be quite the respectable set. Those green albums are really handsome, too. PS- Those dead applauding people from the 1950s seem to like it, as well. That, or they've had just a tad too much caffeine and dexedrine. PPS- pick up that loose Buffalo nickel! You go, fella! I have made some progress! Will post new thread later tonight, or tomorrow. It's only been 2ish months, but I have filled a nice amount of holes! I guess this means I made it into the secret Santa pool?
